PRESENTATION OF THE BUTTERFLY BOOK

The Covington Elks and Elkadettes worked together to present a drug awareness puppet show to 5 elementary schools in Newton County. The show was presented to the Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students in the schools. The purpose of this show is to help the students learn about the effects and dangers of drugs which include smoking cigarettes. The Elkadettes got a grant from Snapping Shoals E.M.C., several years ago, which has helped to fund this program in the schools |
The Covington Elkadettes and Elks ordered and distributed about 3,000 dictionaries for all 3rd graders in 13 Newton County Elementary Schools. Each 3rd grade student took their dictionary home. Research shows that 3rd graders need to use a dictionary and that it will help them develop their vocabulary and the meaning of words during this age. |
